As a company, Donaldson Timber Engineering is fully committed to ensuring the health and safety of all our stakeholders.
Our insurers have commented that our internal systems are among the best in our industry - and possibly any industry - as we have developed industry-leading initiatives to make our employees, customers, site workers and haulage drivers safe.
As accidents at work in the construction industry continue to make for alarming reading, DTE has been focused on improving the safety of one of industry's biggest risk areas - unloading roof trusses.
Since dedicated work on improving this hazard began in 2008, DTE has put a number of significant safety measures in place, including: the introduction of colour coded banding systems to secure the trusses to the lorry; ensuring the lorry driver knows which bands to cut; adding simple pictorial safety messages onto the lorries, and developing systems to remove the need to get onto the lorry.
In particular, DTE has developed a ground-breaking crane unloading package, which has been highly commended by the UK's biggest house builders. DTE can supply trusses pre- slung, which means no-one gets on to the lorry to unload. The slings are placed in the correct position in the factory, reducing risks of slingers putting them in the wrong position, and once they are on the roof the slings are cut off.
Don't take our word for how good the system is; ask the Health & Safety Executive!
